Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s Mortifyingly Funny First Public Appearance
Selena Gomez and fiancé Benny Blanco recently made one of their initial public appearances as a couple at a party hosted by her close friend, Taylor Swift.
Recounting the Party Anecdote
“It was actually really funny,” Gomez, 32, recounted during the Wednesday, March 19, episode of Spotify’s Countdown To series. “As a couple, we attended Taylor’s party after an awards show. It was kind of cute, but I was utterly embarrassed.”
She elaborated, “Apparently, fashionable people don’t arrive at parties on time.”
Blanco, 37, added that both he and Gomez are typically punctual in their everyday lives.
“We are invariably the first attendees at every party when I accompany you,” he joked. “You arrive as early as my mother would at a gathering. [But,] I anticipated you would discuss how our relationship was not yet public knowledge and we were maintaining privacy, so we refrained from touching or even really looking at each other.”
Relationship Confirmation and Early Connection
Gomez acknowledged her relationship with the music producer in December 2023, mentioning in an Instagram post that they had been dating for six months.
“It wasn’t a secret, we simply maintained our privacy,” Gomez explained, adding that they quickly started hitting it off. “I thought you were so fun.”
Blanco also felt an immediate connection to the Only Murders in the Building actress.
“I knew immediately after our first kiss that I thought, ‘Oh wow, I am probably going to marry this person,’” he shared. “Well, I didn’t say marry, but I thought, ‘I’m probably going to have a baby with this person.’”
Upcoming Joint Album
Gomez commented that Blanco’s sentiments were “so cute” and “so sweet.”
“Well, I guess we’ll release this album and let the world hear our little baby,” Gomez joked, referring to their forthcoming joint album, I Said I Loved You First. “And, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, dear. I do.”
Creating Music Together
Gomez and Blanco, who became engaged in December 2023, are scheduled to release I Said I Loved You First on Friday, March 21.
“More than anything else, the most rewarding aspect was simply creating something I love with the person I love,” Blanco elaborated. “I was apprehensive because I didn’t want it to negatively impact our relationship. … Obviously, I’ve collaborated with you numerous times previously, but this just came together so effortlessly and quickly.”
Blanco stated that the tracks on I Said I Loved You First are “the best music they could have created together” and strengthened their bond as a couple.
