Ron Washington sets new rule for Angels clubhouse — a cellphone ban

Angels Manager Ron Washington Institutes Cellphone Ban in Clubhouse

Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington is implementing a policy reminiscent of New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s initiatives.

Mirroring Hochul’s January proposal to restrict cellphone use for students during school hours, the Angels skipper has enacted a no-cellphone rule within the team’s clubhouse during spring training.

Aiming for Enhanced Focus on Baseball

Washington expressed hope that this decision will foster greater concentration on baseball-related activities among players.

This regulation is slated to remain in effect throughout the regular season.

Expanded Cellphone Restrictions

“The rules now extend beyond the confines of the clubhouse,” Washington informed reporters, according to The Athletic. “Initially confined to the hallways immediately outside the team’s clubhouse, the ban will now encompass the entirety of the clubhouse building.”

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

“This isn’t a punitive measure; it’s about cultivating focus,” Washington clarified.

Player Buy-In and Enforcement

Washington stated that he has not encountered player opposition and noted that he previously implemented a similar decree during his tenure managing the Texas Rangers from 2007 to 2014.

Veteran players Mike Trout and Kyle Hendricks will be responsible for ensuring team compliance, tasked with determining the fine amount for rule violations.

Washington initially suggested a $500 fine, consistent with the penalty used in Texas.

However, the players will have the final say in setting the penalty.

Veteran Leadership in Clubhouse Rules

“The clubhouse operates under the leadership of the team’s veteran players,” Washington explained. “We have communicated our preference regarding cellphone usage and expect them to ensure adherence within the clubhouse.”

Washington Holds Himself Accountable

Washington emphasized that the rule applies uniformly, including himself.

“If you observe me using my phone outside my office within the clubhouse, I encourage the players to hold me accountable as well,” he asserted.
