Clarke Maintains Four at the Back for Scotland
Scotland manager Steve Clarke has opted for a four-defender system, with Kieran Tierney starting on the bench. The squad sees two alterations from the team that secured a 2-1 victory against Poland in November. Lewis Ferguson and Che Adams are included in the starting eleven, replacing Ben Doak and Lyndon Dykes.
Steve Clarke on Team Selection
Speaking to BBC Scotland, Steve Clarke commented on his team selection: “Stepping into the stadium, the atmosphere is already electric. I considered switching to a back five, but ultimately decided to maintain our established four-man defence. This formation proved effective during the group stage, allowing us to be more creative in attack with additional midfield presence. Despite the quick turnaround this Thursday, and having the full squad together for only one training session prior to departing for Greece, we opted to proceed with the system that served us well in the previous six fixtures.”
Republic of Ireland Team Changes
Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson has made seven alterations to the starting lineup following a heavy 5-0 defeat at Wembley Stadium. Six changes are due to player unavailability: Liam Scales and Jayson Molumby are suspended, while Sammie Szmodics, Callum O’Dowda, Mark McGuinness, and Festy Ebosele are sidelined with injuries. Evan Ferguson has been moved to the substitutes’ bench. The new inclusions are Mikey Johnston, Robbie Brady, Troy Parrott, Matt Doherty, Ryan Manning, Finn Azaz, and Jason Knight.
