Age is Just a Number: Couple Defies 34-Year Age Gap in Blossoming Romance
For one couple, age truly is just a number. Despite a significant 34-year age difference, their love story proves that age is no barrier to connection and commitment.
Christine Haycox, 74, and Hamza Dridi, 40, discovered their connection seven years ago. Their paths crossed during an online English language course where Haycox was the instructor. This unconventional beginning blossomed into an enduring relationship, leaving them only wishing they had met sooner.
Online Meeting Sparks International Romance
In 2018, Dridi responded to a Facebook advertisement posted by Haycox, a native of the UK, who was offering English lessons to international students. This virtual classroom became the unexpected setting for their initial encounter.
Their first online meeting ignited an instant connection. “There was an immediate spark between us,” Haycox shared with The Mirror, describing their virtual introduction as love at first sight.
Whirlwind Romance Leads to Tunisian Wedding
Shortly after their initial connection, Haycox made a life-changing decision. She booked a one-way flight to Hammamet, Tunisia, Dridi’s home country in North Africa, and embarked on a new chapter of her life. She never looked back.

Their romance culminated in a private ceremony at Dridi’s family residence in 2020. They exchanged vows in a low-key wedding celebration.
“The marriage was delayed due to the two-year process of obtaining paperwork from England,” Haycox clarified in reports.
Mutual Devotion and Family Acceptance
A year later, Haycox embraced Islam, further solidifying her commitment to her husband. Dridi expressed his deep affection for his wife, stating, “Christine is a lovely wife. She is my queen. I love her personality and her intelligence.”
Haycox, who was previously married for over three decades before divorcing in 2003, has adult children and grandchildren. Her family and friends have embraced her relationship with Dridi. “They can see my happiness. My friends have been incredibly supportive. Hamza frequently communicates with them, allowing them to witness the strength of our bond,” she explained.
The 74-year-old revealed that they now share a home, where Dridi takes responsibility for the majority of household chores.
Intimacy and Overcoming Societal Scrutiny
Addressing the intimate aspect of their relationship, Haycox playfully stated, “He’s a passionate Tunisian — our intimate life is more active than many.”
Despite their happiness, the couple has faced criticism due to their age disparity. “We have received unpleasant emails and Facebook messages,” Haycox admitted.
She refuted common assumptions about their relationship, stating, “People assume he is after my money, but I am a teacher of modest means. Others suggest he wants a visa, but he is deeply devoted to his family and would never willingly leave them.”
Future Plans: Relocation to the UK
While Dridi’s priority is family, the couple hopes to secure a visa for him to relocate to the UK to address Haycox’s medical needs in the future.
