Graham, portraying Eddie Miller in the series, appeared on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss the impactful themes of Adolescence, including misogyny and online radicalisation. However, the conversation took a detour as Fallon inquired about Graham’s relationships with past co-stars. After mentioning Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, Fallon remarked on DiCaprio’s fondness for Graham, referencing their collaboration on Gangs of New York.
Graham Details Near-Disaster on ‘Gangs of New York’ Set
Graham responded with a chuckle, introducing a story about a golf cart incident with DiCaprio. “Yeah, I did get into a bit of trouble initially,” Graham admitted. He recounted borrowing a golf cart from DiCaprio on set: “Leo had a golf cart… I asked if I could drive it.”
The narrative unfolded with Graham driving DiCaprio and Alec McCowen in the golf cart. “We get to the summit of this hill—a substantial hill,” Graham explained, emphasizing the vehicle’s lack of speed uphill but potential for momentum downhill. “Going downhill, they are,” he added, setting up the comedic mishap.
Amidst audience laughter, Graham continued, describing the escalating situation: “So we were in the golf cart – me, Leo, and Alec in the back. I floored it.” He likened their experience to “the Flintstones,” due to the vehicle’s precarious descent. The situation worsened when Graham attempted to reverse while moving rapidly downhill.
“When you put a golf cart in reverse from speed, the back wheels lock,” Graham detailed. “The wheels locked, and as I turned, the whole thing began to tip over.” He described the imminent danger: “As it’s falling, it looked as if it would break his [DiCaprio’s] leg, but he just managed to move it in time.”
Following the overturned golf cart, McCowen reportedly labelled Graham an “animal,” a nickname that persisted on the Gangs of New York set, shortened to “Annie.” Fallon, reacting to the story, exclaimed, “You could’ve killed him!” To which Graham conceded, “I know, we would have had to halt filming.”
