X Factor icons eye up ITV return to bring ‘spark’ back as show faces the chop

Jedward Eyes ‘Dancing on Ice’ After Gemma Collins’ Success

Former X Factor contestants Jedward are reportedly considering a potential appearance on Dancing on Ice, following the success of their friend, Gemma Collins. The identical twins, John and Edward Grimes, both 33, last appeared on television in 2017 when they reached the final of Celebrity Big Brother. The pop duo now appear to be following in Collins’s footsteps on the ITV ice-skating contest.

Collins previously participated in the show in 2019, paired with professional skater Matt Evers. Although they did not reach the live final, the pair made an impact on the rink, highlighted by Collins’s memorable recovery from a fall.

Jedward’s Enthusiasm for ‘Dancing on Ice’

The musicians, who have collaborated with Dr Pepper to promote their new Cherry Crush Zero Sugar limited-edition flavor, have expressed their interest in joining the competition.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Edward stated: “We are actually very good at ice skating and we used to do rollerblading too so we can definitely bring [the energy]. I definitely think Dancing on Ice does need a new spark of life and I feel like we would bring the energy.”

“I did meet Torville and Dean over Christmas so who knows what’s in store for us. But I’d love to do it, I’d love to go for it, and I know Gemma has done it too,” Edward continued. John added: “I do have a natural capability on the ice. We are good ice skaters, I think we’re almost too good sometimes.”

Despite his enthusiasm, Edward mentioned that he might be hesitant to participate without his brother due to recent leg and ankle injuries. He added: “I think it could also be a good solo project too. John could do it himself or I could and then we could be like, ‘Jedward are broken up’ but I’d just be supporting John in the studio.”

‘Dancing on Ice’ Facing Challenges

The potential Jedward involvement comes as the long-running show faces uncertainty. Viewing figures have declined significantly from a peak of 12 million viewers to a quarter of that number. The most recent final saw Sam Aston, 31, triumph over Michaela Strachan, 58, and Anton Ferdinand, 40.

Sources told The Sun that the series is costly to produce and requires a significant overhaul. One insider commented: “The staffers on Dancing on Ice are saying the show is over and claim they’ve been told as much. It’s a mainstay if ITV’s schedule and viewing figures are remarkably less than they were but they still had almost three million watch the launch show.”

Jedward’s ongoing partnership with the soft drink company has spanned over two years. Recent research conducted by Dr Pepper revealed that 80% of people believe friends are among the most crucial relationships in their lives. An additional 65% of participants stated that having good friends is as important as having a partner. Dr Pepper Cherry Crush Zero Sugar is available nationwide at major retailers in various formats.
