Astronauts Dismiss Trump’s ‘Abandoned in Space’ Assertion
Former President Donald Trump alleged in a February post on Truth Social that astronauts Williams and Wilmore were “virtually abandoned” in orbit during their mission, which had extended from eight days to eight months. However, the astronauts have since refuted the former president’s statement.
Astronauts Reject Abandonment Claims
Speaking to CNN’s Anderson Cooper on February 13th, Wilmore stated, “We do not feel abandoned. We do not feel stuck or stranded. We arrived prepared and committed to our mission.”
Williams added during the same interview that they were, “doing pretty darn good, actually.”
“We have sufficient provisions, including food and clothing, and a fantastic crew here,” she explained. “Although our stay is longer than initially planned, we are trained to live and work on the International Space Station, and we believe we have made the most of this extended duration.”
Return Journey Aboard SpaceX Dragon Capsule Anticipated
During the interview, Wilmore and Williams also confirmed their scheduled return to Earth aboard SpaceX’s Dragon capsule, set to launch on March 12th.
