Dolly Parton ‘at peace’ with husband Carl Dean’s death: ‘Doing better than I thought I would’

Dolly Parton Shares Reflections on Husband Carl Dean’s Passing

Country music legend Dolly Parton has publicly addressed the recent death of her husband, Carl Dean, expressing a sense of peace amidst her grief. The 79-year-old icon provided fans with an update on her well-being following Dean’s passing.

First Public Appearance Since Dean’s Death

Parton, married to Dean for nearly six decades, recently spoke with Knox News after making a surprise appearance at Dollywood’s Celebrity Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Her visit on March 14 commemorated the resort’s 40th anniversary and marked her first public engagement since her husband’s death.

Coping After Loss

“I’m faring better than anticipated,” Parton revealed regarding life after Dean’s death.

“Having spent 60 years together, adjusting to certain routines will take time. However, he will forever remain close to my heart,” she stated.

Finding Peace and Cherishing Memories

The “9 to 5” vocalist expressed finding “peace in his peace,” while acknowledging the ongoing absence and enduring love for her late husband.

“[Dean] endured considerable suffering,” she admitted, adding, “There’s a void in my heart, undoubtedly, but it will be filled with cherished memories, and he will always be with me.”

Carl Dean’s Low-Profile Dollywood Visits

During the interview, the celebrated entertainer shared anecdotes about her husband’s frequent visits to Dollywood, despite his preference for privacy.

“He would often visit the park and purchase his own admission, waiting in line like any other guest,” Parton recounted. “He declined complimentary tickets due to being known as Dolly’s husband. People find that incredibly amusing.”

Constructive Feedback from a Devoted Husband

Parton also mentioned Dean’s habit of offering constructive criticism following his Dollywood excursions.

“He would often remark, ‘You need more restrooms,’” Parton chuckled, imitating Dean’s voice. “Or suggest improvements like, ‘Inform guests about crowd flow in certain areas. Recommend adjustments to improve guest experience.’”

“His intentions were never critical,” she clarified, “but rather, to highlight observations he felt were worth considering.”

Honoring Dean’s Memory

Concluding the interview, she expressed her intention to emulate Carl’s approach by “simply walking around” and “observing everything” at Dollywood, in remembrance of him.

Public Announcement of Passing

Parton initially announced Dean’s death earlier in March via Instagram. He was 82 years old.

“Carl Dean, beloved husband of Dolly Parton, passed away on March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82,” her statement read. “He will be interred in a private ceremony with immediate family. He is survived by his siblings Sandra and Donnie.”

“Carl and I shared countless beautiful years together. Words cannot adequately express the depth of our love over 60 years,” the post continued. “Thank you for your outpouring of prayers and sympathy.”

“The family respectfully requests privacy during this sensitive period,” she concluded.

Continued Message of Love and Appreciation

Parton later returned to Instagram to share another heartfelt message expressing gratitude for the support received after Dean’s passing.

“This is a love letter to family, friends, and fans,” she wrote. “Thank you for the numerous messages, cards, and flowers sent to honor and remember my cherished husband, Carl.”

“He is in God’s Arms Now”

“While I cannot personally respond to each of you, please know your kindness has meant the world to me. He is now resting in peace with God, and I find solace in that,” the celebrated country artist added. “My love to you all, always.”

Parton also released a new song dedicated to Dean – titled “If You Hadn’t Been There” – following his death as a musical tribute to their enduring bond.
