The couple, who married in 2021 after a decade-long relationship, had separated several months before Baena, director of Spin Me Round, died by suicide in January. This information is according to a Medical Examiner’s report obtained by TMZ. The report indicates that Baena, aged 47 at the time of his death, and Plaza, star of The White Lotus, separated in September when Plaza relocated to New York.
Communication Prior to Death
Despite their separation, law enforcement officials stated that the estranged couple spoke on the phone the night before Baena’s death, according to TMZ documents. Furthermore, Plaza, 40, informed authorities that she received a text message from Baena – his last communication – hours before he was declared dead, the outlet reported.
Discovery of Baena
The Medical Examiner’s filing also detailed the circumstances of Baena’s discovery. His dog walker found him deceased at his residence after noticing loud music emanating from inside, as per reports.
