Lewis-Skelly Reflects on First England Call-Up
Myles Lewis-Skelly expressed his determination to reciprocate the faith Arsenal has shown in him after receiving his maiden call-up to the England squad, a moment that reportedly filled him with immense joy.
International Selection
The 18-year-old left-back was included in Thomas Tuchel’s initial England squad on Friday for the forthcoming World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Albania and Latvia. This recognition comes after a string of impressive performances since his recent integration into the Arsenal team.
The versatile teenager made his 26th senior appearance in Sunday’s 1-0 Premier League victory versus Chelsea.

On-Field Performance and Arsenal’s Victory
Arsenal’s recent victory concluded a three-match winless streak, narrowing the gap to Liverpool, the league leaders, to 12 points as the international break commenced. Lewis-Skelly could potentially continue his rapid ascent by earning his first England cap.
Reflecting on the call-up, Lewis-Skelly stated, “I’m buzzing,” during an interview with Arsenal’s website. “Honestly I was elated, just shouting around my house. I’m excited for what’s coming up, but you’ve always got to stay locked in on the present and not get too attached to the feeling that’s coming later down the line.”
Manager Arteta gave the young academy player his Arsenal debut against Manchester City in September at the age of 17. Lewis-Skelly has since become an important squad member during this breakthrough season.
Following Sunday’s derby triumph, he commented, “It’s all I can ask for really. I’m just so grateful to the team and the boss in trusting me, and I want to continue to repay them and be the best version of myself.”
Arrival at St George’s Park and Team Dynamics
Lewis-Skelly arrived at St George’s Park on Monday for England’s first training camp under manager Thomas Tuchel. Dan Burn, another England debutant, who is 14 years older than the Arsenal youngster, arrived in Burton-on-Trent hours after helping Newcastle win the Carabao Cup at Wembley.
“I’ve had worse weeks,” Burn told Sky Sports on Sunday. “I don’t want to go to sleep because I feel like I’m dreaming and it’s all going to be a lie. Despite team celebrations, Burn declared his intent to arrive early for English duty. “Tomorrow morning, I’ll be first there at eight o’clock,” he added.
Tuchel also welcomed England returnees Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford on the inaugural day of the training camp, with Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White joining after a late call-up to replace the injured Cole Palmer.
Upcoming Matches and Qualification
England is scheduled to play Albania at Wembley on Friday evening, followed by a match against Latvia at the same venue on Monday, March 24. Tuchel’s team is also set to face Serbia and Andorra in Group K of the UEFA qualifying rounds, with the group winners securing a place in next year’s finals.
