Bobby Davro slams Britain's Got Talent as he fumes 'name one person!'

Bobby Davro has opened up about his feelings towards TV talent shows such as ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent and it is clear he is not a fan. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk the 66-year-old legendary comedian said: “There was a time where the professional would be on the TV. The amateurs would sit on the couch watch the professional performers. Now it’s a professional performer sitting on the couch watching the amateurs.

“There’s lots of talent out there, but they don’t really use it,” he said. “It’s not about the talent. It’s about the journey, and it’s about humanity. I think it’s about seeing people struggling. They like the hard luck story. They never really do anything with the people that win. Name me one person, they’ve taken and given them a show of their own. There’s not been one,” he pointed out. When Susan Boyle’s success is mentioned to him he says without hesitation: “They exploited her.

“I’ve got friends that have gone on Britain’s Got Talent and they’re great acts, and they get destroyed. It’s not about the talent,” he insists.

BGT judge Amanda Holden previously denied that the show “exploited” Susan Boyle. She told Larry King in 2009: “All the contestants that appear on the show are extraordinarily well looked after. (Susan) is getting the best support she could possibly be getting at the moment.”

While Britain’s Got Talent may dominate Saturday nights at the moment, there was a period where Bobby was Mr Saturday Night as he enjoyed a slew of succcessful shows.

Reflecting on those days he says: “Remember, there was only about five channels [then] and I think that’s why there was a lot more opportunity.

“I had a good run. I’d love to be involved in television again, but it’s sort of all or nothing [nowadays],” he said.

While he may not be on our screens, Bobby is still a fixture on stages and is currently back out on tour for the first time in a decade

The show is entitled ‘Everything Is Funny If You Can Laugh At It’ and he began on March 7 and runs through until September 27.

Admitting he was looking forward to connecting with audiences again he said: “What do they say? If you enjoy the job you’ll never work a day.

“I love it. The business I don’t particularly care for too much. But I love the work,” he said.

Bobby Davro’s Everything Is Funny If You Can Laugh At It tour will take in theatres across the UK until September 27.
