BBC Death in Paradise viewers in tears after tragic death twist

Death in Paradise were left ‘blubbering’ following an emotional scene during Friday’s (14 March) episode of the popular BBC series.

The latest instalment of the drama saw DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) delve deeper into what really happened to his late mum Dorna (Judith Jacob) after finding out she’d passed away months before he arrived on Saint Marie.

Mervin grew suspicious about the circumstances surrounding Dorna’s death, leading to some big discoveries. He also found out more about his adoption, after his mother gave him up as a baby.

One heartfelt scene saw Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) and Mervin sit down to look at a letter Dorna left. It soon became clear she never wanted to give her son up, with her letters revealing she’d never stopped thinking about Mervin.

Reading out the note, Selwyn told Mervin: “I think you should hear this. She mentions the ring you told me about. But, she says ‘I have not taken it off since I got back here, and I’m never going to. I’m always going to wear it. And, whenever I look at it, I’m always going to think of our little boy.’

“I don’t think she ever forgot you.” The message left Mervin to become tearful, and he soon told Selwyn he needed to take a minute to process what he’d heard.

Fans at home were left feeling emotional over the scene, with many taking to social media share their thoughts.

“Not me blubbering like a baby,” one person penned, as a second added: ”Oh #DeathInParadise where the commissioner reading the letters gave me a lump in my throat congratulations there to the writers.”

Another wrote: ”I’m actually crying – I feel so bad for him,” while somebody else commented: “Aw, Mervin did have someone who loved him.”

The poignant letter was left by Dorna to Mervin’s father, and helped Mervin to piece together the events that led his parents to giving him up as a baby.

Death in Paradise airs on Fridays on BBC One at 9pm. Episodes are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
