BBC Breakfast's Nina Warhurst takes swipe at co-star live on air 'can't believe it'

Nina Warhurst was back on TV screens on Friday (14 March) as she fronted BBC Breakfast alongside Charlie Stayt.

The two presenters brought a jam-packed episode to screens, with everything from the latest political news to interviews with celebrities featuring in the programme.

A large portion of Friday’s BBC Breakfast was dedicated to The Cheltenham Festival as the Gold Cup race was taking place later that same day. Weather updates from the racecourse, fronted by Matt Taylor, featured throughout the show, along with Mike Bushell bringing all of the latest Cheltenham news.

During one segment fronted by Mike live from the racecourse, he held the Gold Cup and spoke about the trophy’s history. As he started presenting, Nina couldn’t resist taking a cheeky swipe at her co-star. Mike

“Operations are underway for the Gold Cup,” she declared. “I can’t believe they’ve given it to Mike! Not with his track record.”

A visibly shocked Mike then responded: “What do you mean?! What?! What are you saying Nina?!” before breaking out into fits of laughter.

The broadcaster could be seen stood in front of the racecourse, where several horses and jockeys were visible. He went on to explain more about the Gold Cup, which he held in his hands to show to the camera.

“They have entrusted me indeed with the Gold Cup itself. As, some of the horses and jockeys that are hoping to lift this later on go past me on this fine morning on this Gold Cup day,” Mike said.

He added: “Yes, it’s rather small but it’s one of the most prestigous and precious trophies in any sport in the world. Remember it went missing, it was lost in a bank vault for years! Until, it was reuntied with the course back in 2018.”

The fun moment between Nina and Mike came after weather presenter Matt suffered a huge blunder while broadcasting live from Cheltenham racecourse earlier in the show.

As he attempted to provide a weather update, the sound cut out meaning viewers at home could no longer hear him. Charlie was forced to address the blunder and quickly apologised, before reassuring BBC viewers they’d hear from Matt again later on in the show.

BBC Breakfast airs on weekdays at 6am on BBC One
