Cleaning experts are urging households to banish unusual ‘pink mould’ usually found in bathroom showers because of the risks it can pose. While most of us probably picture damp and mould in the form of black and green spots, bathrooms can breed the more unusual pink and orange-coloured moulds thanks to a perfect storm of conditions related to warm water, shampoo and soap residue and poor ventilation. The pink mould often found in the shower is a type of bacteria that thrives in warm environments like bathrooms and feeds off of shampoo and soap residue. It can also be found in sinks, grout lines, shower curtains, toilets and window sills and can worsen in bathrooms with poor ventilation.
Although it’s not as dangerous as black mould, pink mould can be unsightly, can stain tiles, and can still cause issues if inhaled regularly.
