All homeowners urged to make '60-second check to prevent rat invasion'

Nobody wants rats in their home.

Let’s be honest, it’s one thing that most people fear. And, sometimes no matter how clean you are, they can still find their way in to your property.

But a pest control expert claims you can prevent a rat invasion in “60 seconds” by making some very simple checks. Triumph Pest Control often share handy tips on TikTok, and this piece of advice is something you may want to listen to.

If you want to keep the rodents out, there are a few things you need to do. While there are many checks you can make around the house to stop rats coming in, he said these are the ones that “stop you from getting an infestation”.

To begin, you need to go around your property and see if there are any breaks around your vents. Checking around your gas and electric meters for cracks is also vital, as rats will “exploit” any gaps.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

He explained: “They’ll go up the pipe and into the actual structure of the gas and electric meter and get into the property that way.

“You can also go and check your sewer drains. If the drain covers up, have a look in there for any breaks and gaps around the back of your property.

“Around the back of your property, check for any pipes or any old pipes that have been left empty. So the pipes have been pulled out, but there’s a hole and a gap going in that hasn’t been re-filled. Rats love that one.

“And, finally, if you’ve got any bird feeders or food stored at the back, these are really good for rats and, if you’ve got them in the shed – get them into nice metal containers with a clip on top or weight it down. That’ll stop rats chewing through to anything else.”

What to do if you have ratsΒ

If you think you have rats, there are various things you can do to prevent them coming back. First, you need to identify the problem, and make sure it’s rats.

Then remove any food sources you may have outside, such as bird feeders. Also remove any shelter from the garden, such as junk piles and wood.

Naturally, it’s wise to cover up any holes or cracks you can find around the property. As well as this, you should make it as clean as possible.

You can buy repellents to try and keep them away but, if you’re worried or feel like nothing is working, contact your local pest control service. It’s always best to seek advice, especially if they’re present inside the property.
