ITV viewers were left “bawling their eyes out” after children from war-torn Ukraine, combined with kids from Liverpool schools, teamed up to form the 100 Voices United Choir. Flocking to Twitter, Brits marvelled at the bravery and emotion displayed by those who hailed from warzones.
“Absolutely bawling my eyes out after seeing those children sing!” @Mabel_Mouse_ exclaimed, attaching emojis of both the British and Ukrainian flags. “Wow – the kids singing!” @MIchelleBoudin_ chimed in, adding a tearful emoji.
“It just shows how powerful music is and how it really brings people together!” Then @juecal10 praised: “So emotional. A wonderful and heartwarming sight and sound. Bless them all.”
The choir contains kids as young as four years old, and everyone is welcome, including the visually impaired. Tears shone in the children’s eyes as they reflected on the difficulties their war-torn region has faced since the Russian invasion last year – and the public turned out to be equally emotional.
Ukrainian Inna Ruzheva had originally founded the choir after moving to the UK, joining forces with choir director Vicki Hambleton and a team of teachers. Vicki recently told all about the group to the nation, explaining: “We’ve learned so much about each other’s cultures, discovered a space where we can all express ourselves, and made friends for life.

The founder’s son appeared via video-link expressing his sadness that he couldn’t be with his mother while the war raged on, but vowing he’d play his part as best he could in helping the conflict to end.
The overwhelmed mum was close to tears and deeply moved as he told her he was proud to be her son, and it seemed there wasn’t a dry eye around during the exchange.
Elsewhere on the show, the Urban Fox Orchestra Steelband delivered a moving performance reliving the events of Windrush as they marked its 75th anniversary.
One performer was reunited with his son, who usually lives in the Caribbean, for the first time in 20 years, and was visibly tearful as they came face to face.
Also on the show were artists including Busted and Paloma Faith, while Take That belted out a medley of This Life and Never Forget.
The New Year’s Eve bash was hosted by Jason Manford and Alesha Dixon and is available to watch on the ITV Hub.
