Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers have reportedly agreed not to criticise each other as part of the Manchester United takeover deal. The INEOS owner has now acquired a 25 per cent stake in his boyhood outfit, worth £1.03billion, and is hoping to get to work rebuilding the footballing side of the club.
After over 12 months of speculation, it was announced on Christmas Eve that United had sold a 25 per cent stake to Ratcliffe. The news has come as a welcome boost for supporters following their shaky start to the season that has seen Erik ten Hag come under immense pressure.
Although Ratcliffe is keen to make an instant impact at Old Trafford, the 71-year-old has called for fans to give him ‘patience’ and ‘time’ so that he can ensure that his next steps are the best ones for everyone.
United supporters have grown tired of their regression under the Glazers, with transfer funds being invested into sub-par players and the stadium itself in serious need of TLC to bring it up to the standards of other top European clubs.
However, Ratcliffe won’t be the one to call out the Glazers for their inadequacies, it has emerged. According to The Telegraph, a ‘mutual non-disparagement’ clause was included in the takeover deal to ensure that any ‘ill feeling and hostilities’ are not made public whilst they are operating together.
