Coronation Street family torn apart as resident makes heartbreaking confession

It looks as though one Coronation Street family could be torn apart as Ed Bailey (played by Michael Georges) decides to come clean. Since arriving in Weatherfield four years ago, ITV fans learnt that the Baileys had lost their previous home due to Ed’s gambling addiction.

Over the past few years, he’s managed to keep his demons at bay, up until recently. When his brother Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) decided they should go into business together, Ed’s old habit started to creep back in.

In recent scenes, viewers have seen Ed gamble away £1,000 of his son’s money and borrow some cash from friend Tony (Sean Cernow) to fuel his addiction. However, the family are set to learn he’s been gambling once again.

Official spoilers for the ITV soap reveal the family are seething to know Ed has slipped back into his old ways. His son Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) is so angry with his dad that he wants him gone completely.

It’s not just Michael who is angry as Dee Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) is furious with her boyfriend Joel Deering (Calum Lill) and uncle for keeping Ed’s problem a secret. Elsewhere, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) spots Ed at the precinct.

As Ed appears to have the weight of the world on his shoulders, Todd sits down for a chat.

Opening up, he confesses all about his gambling problem and how his children hate him for relapsing.

However, Ed reveals that they don’t even know the worst of it, the money’s all gone.

After speaking to Todd, Ed decides it’s time to come clean to his family about everything, regardless of the consequences.

The last time Ed had a gambling problem the family nearly lost everything, is history about to repeat itself?

Currently, his wife Aggie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw) is out of town and is unaware their family is in hot water once again.

Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod teased there’s plenty more drama ahead surrounding Ed’s addiction.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media publications, he said: “In the run-up to Christmas, Ed’s problems are spiralling and mounting.

“It will culminate in him hitting rock bottom shortly before Christmas. In an effort to keep the walls from the door, he is forced to do something extremely upsetting for him and commit what he would see as an awful betrayal.

“From a viewer point of view, it is desperately sad, Ed will feel like he has let himself down in the worst conceivable way.

“This is a desperate man who has had his issues over the years where he has been driven to desperation where he does this thing.”

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
