Tyler Perry breaks down crying on ‘The View’ and pauses interview

Tyler Perry broke down in tears during his appearance on “The View” after co-host Sara Haines complimented his upcoming documentary “Maxine’s Baby.”

The 54-year-old multi-talented Oscar winner appeared on the daytime talk show to promote the Prime Video doc, which dives into his traumatic childhood and surviving his abusive father, the uneasy road to box office success, and his mother Maxine’s unwavering love.

Willie Maxine Perry, after whom Tyler modeled his famous Madea character after, died of cancer in December 2009.

“This film, I will watch every time I need my own power,” Haines raved to Perry at “The View” table on Tuesday. “I wanted to run laps. It was so well done.”

She continued, “And I met Maxine through all of it. I didn’t know her.”

Haines continued into another question until her flattering remark finally caught up with Perry.

“Okay, wait a minute,” he interjected, becoming emotional and tripping over his words.

“That one took me — you mean, you met my mother through it? Wow, thank you,” Perry said as co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar placed their hands on his shoulders.

His docuseries hits Prime Video on Nov. 17.

Perry continued, “To say that you met her through that, that takes me somewhere because, you know, this
woman endured so much pain and she didn’t have some legacy, but she had me.”

“To say I was able to introduce her to you, you got me there, man,” he tearfully admitted as the hosts passed tissues around the table. “I’m sorry. Lord have mercy. Thank you for that. I appreciate that very much.”

Sunny Hostin tried to comfort Perry during his visit.

Haines once again attempted to continue the conversation, but a visibly distraught Perry claimed he needed to take another second to process what just happened.

“I just imagine a woman who lived her entire life with so much pain and she was always worried about everybody else,” he said again about his mother.

“I watched her get sick. I watched her get cancer. Her intention was, ‘Are you happy? Are you okay?’ She never put herself on the list, she never thought she was important or that anybody would care.”

“So to say this documentary that they did about my life introduces her to the world, that moves me because she was that special to me,” he explained, before lightening the mood, “I know there are other questions so please ask me something else.”
