Erik ten Hag has called out Jadon Sancho for not doing enough in training to warrant a place in his Manchester United side at the moment. Sancho was a substitute in United’s first three games of the season, but was left out of the matchday squad for their clash against Arsenal.
Ten Hag instead opted for youngsters Daniel Gore and Hannibal Mejri as well as Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund as his attacking options off the bench. Sancho’s omission was a surprise to many with the winger still struggling to win over Ten Hag at Old Trafford.
And the United boss gave a damning assessment of Sancho’s situation at the club after their defeat to Arsenal. Explaining why Sancho was not involved against Arsenal, Ten Hag said: “On his performance in training, we didn’t select him.
βYou have to reach the level every day at Manchester United. Thatβs why in this game he wasn’t selected.”
It’s a far cry from where Sancho stood with Ten Hag during pre-season as the United boss was impressed by the winger’s attitude. Ten Hag said earlier in the summer that all Sancho needed was to add more consistency and improve in the final third to push for a starting spot at Old Trafford.
