Jada Pinkett Smith overjoyed as hair begins to 'make comeback' after alopecia diagnosis

Jada Pinkett Smith has been very open about her alopecia diagnosis since first opening up about her diagnosis in 2018.

Her shaved head was made into a ‘joke’ at the 94th Academy Awards last March by Chris Rock, prompting her husband Will Smith to smack the comedian onstage.

The Red Table Talk host has now shared a very joyous update as she celebrated her hair’s progress on Instagram.

The Hollywood actress shared selfies, one with her head shaved, and the second with her dyed blonde hair.

She captioned the post: “This here hair is act’n like it’s try’n a make a comeback. Still have some trouble spots but — we’ll see. Slide 1: Past, Slide 2: Present.” (sic)

Social media users rushed to the comments to share their happiness for the actress over her hair’s progress.

@Lalahdelia said: “Radiantly beautiful through and through.”

@Chinkylilthang added: “Beautiful Auntie.”

Jada has not kept quiet during her health battle, first describing her sudden hair loss as “terrifying” in 2018.

Speaking to her mother Adrienne and daughter Willow on an episode of Red Table Talk, the actress recalled losing “handfuls of hair” in the shower one day.

She said: “And I’ll tell you it was terrifying when it first started. I was in the shower one day and then just a handful of hair, just in my hands, and I was like ‘Oh my God am I going bald?’

“It was one of those times in my life when I was literally shaking with fear.”

She went on to credit Turbans for helping her feel empowered as a result of her hair loss as she explained: “When my hair is wrapped, I feel like a queen.”

In July 2021, fans praised the actress as she debuted her shaved head for the first time on Instagram, as she admitted it was “time to let go”.

She admitted in the post that it was her daughter Willow that convinced her to cut her hair off following her alopecia battle.

Jada captioned the post: “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT … my 50s are about to be Divinely lit with this shed.”

According to the NHS, hair loss, known medically as alopecia, is fairly common, affecting around 40 percent of women aged 70 or over.

Hair loss can be genetic, or as a result of extreme stress, a medical condition, or treatment.
