Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) will find himself unexpectedly bonding with Gina Knight in next week’s EastEnders as their personal problems give them a lot of common ground.
Widower Jay, who is grieving the loss of his wife Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold), seeks a quiet drink in The Albert but is soon joined by struggling Gina (Francesca Henry) who is still reeling from her sister’s recent revelation that their mum is still alive.
As Gina knocks back the booze she implores Jay to look after Lexi in the wake of Lola’s death, echoing her own experience growing up without a mum.
As the drinks continue to flow the pair’s conversation gets very awkward as Jay gets the wrong end of the stick when Gina places her hand on his leg and makes a hasty exit.
Gina then heads to buy drugs from the dealer she met in Peggy’s a few weeks back.

Meanwhile, her step-mum-to-be Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) has been busy hatching a plan to get Gina and Anna (Molly Rainford) to step up for their dad by offering £50 to the winner who gives out the most promotional flyers in an attempt to steal customers from The Albert for the Women’s World Cup.
While dropping off leaflets at the car lot, Gina and Jay have a heart-to-heart as she gives him advice on parenting Lexi by sharing her own experience growing up without a mum.
The pair put their awkward encounter from the night before behind them, but Gina is later rattled when Anna brings up their mum again.
Gina discovers that Anna has gone ahead and met with a private investigator to share information about their mum’s disappearance.
Anna, Gina, and their dad George Knight (Colin Salmon) have no idea that “Rose Knight,” who has been missing for years, is actually Walford legend Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) who was living under a false name.
While George and Gina are happy to move on from the mystery, Anna is determined to get to the bottom of what happened to her mum.
EastEnders continues on Monday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
