In the first match that Weston McKennie and Timothy Weah took on Christian Pulisic as a rival, none of the three Americans could salvage a meaningful performance as Juventus beat AC Milan 4-3 on penalties.

Meanwhile, opposite the most recent United States captain were McKennie and Weah – two of Pulisic’s USMNT teammates.

But in the end, while Pulisic and Weah looked occasionally dangerous in the buildup – and McKennie put in a great performance in midfield – no goals were scored from open play on the night.

Malick Thiaw scored off a free kick and Danilo and Olivier Giroud scored off corners to give Milan a 2-1 advantage at the end of the first half. An early second half goal off a free kick was either turned in off Daniele Rugani or was an own goal via Giroud.

The first match that saw Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic play as Serie A rivals went in McKennie's favor as Juventus defeated AC Milan 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw

That lead to the penalty shootout, which went to six rounds. A save by Juventus keeper Carlo Pinsoglio set up Matias Soule’s kick to win the game for Juve.

Neither side looked particularly threatening in the buildup in a match that lacked intensity outside of any free kicks.

Both sides combined for nine shots on target – a 5-4 advantage to Milan.

Managers Massimiliano Allegri of Juventus and Stefano Pioli of AC Milan substituted their entire starting elevens, leading Weah, McKennie, and Pulisic to call it an early night.

Juventus now travels to Orlando to take on Real Madrid on August 2, while Milan takes on Barcelona in Las Vegas on August 1.
