'Huge consequences' as rogue states Russia, China and North Korea form new horror alliance

Russia’s terrifying alliance with China and North Korea will have “huge consequences” as the trio cosies up, experts have told Daily Express US.

Russian and Chinese delegates met in Pyongyang this week to celebrate North Korea’s “Victory Day” in the brutal Korean War on its 70th anniversary.

The event was a stark reminder of the trio’s strengthening ties amid Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, largely shunned by the Western world.

According to Paul Bracken, professor of management and political science at the Yale School of Management, the alliance is a major cause for concern.

He told Daily Express US: “We’re seeing new coalitions taking shape right before our eyes, like Israel and the Saudis, and here with Russia, China and North Korea.

“There will be huge consequences: evading sanctions; sell ammo, drones, and landmines; and allow key specialists to help build their national programs. A Russian missile engineer can more easily go to North Korea to consult now.

“But we shouldn’t look for the taut blocs of the Cold War, like NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Things are much looser now.”

Russia’s defence minister visited North Korea this week, observing banned ballistic missiles alongside leader Kim Jong Un at a military expo in Pyongyang.

Sergei Shoigu said in a statement released by Russia’s defence ministry following the meeting: “I am convinced that today’s talks will help strengthen co-operation between our defence agencies.”

John R. Bryson, Professor of Enterprise and Economic Geography Birmingham University told Daily Express US, told Daily Express that while North Korea’s defense capabilities aren’t going to of too much use to the Russians, the alliance is still concerning.

He said: “Russia’s ongoing military cooperation with North Korea is an example of Putin’s desperation. North Korea is not an innovator in terms of military technology. North Korea can provide Russia with weapons, but of what quality and quantity?

“There are also dangers for Putin in Russia becoming too aligned with North Korea. What could be forming is an alliance of rogue states.”

Prof Bryson added that “Russia is becoming an increasingly isolated state and now needs to rely on countries like North Korea, Iran and China…These countries are best described not as a country with a governance structure, but as one political party in control of a national territory.”

While China has not helped to arm Russia as it continues to cause devastation on Ukrainian turf, Beijing has repeatedly echoed the Kremlin’s rhetoric as the conflict rages on.

Russian and Chinese militaries have also performed joint drills off the Korean Peninsula to “strengthen both sides’ capabilities”, according to the People’s Liberation Army.

Matt Shoemaker, a former intelligence officer at the Defense Intelligence Agency, told Daily Express US it is not as obvious to identify what China is gaining from its close partnership with Russia.

He said: “China’s engagement is much more difficult to gauge because China and Russia, while currently aligned with similar goals to displace US global power, are traditionally competitors.

“In the short term, they are working together, but China has goals of retaking Russian territory near the Sea of Japan as well as Russian natural resources such as supplying water to drought-stricken China from the Russian Lake Baikal. China could just as much invade Russian territory around Vladivostok sensing weakness just as much as it could assist Russia’s fight against NATO.”
