‘Only thing’ that works to get ‘very dirty’ white socks ‘pure white again’ without bleach

Most people will have at least one pair of off-white or stained pair of socks lurking in their drawer.

What starts off as a fresh, dazzlingly white pair of socks inevitably ends up losing its sparkle.

Luckily, cleaning enthusiasts have taken to social media to share their top tips after one woman asked for some laundry advice for her “very dirty” white socks.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page, Leanne Willis wrote: “What’s the best white stain remover for very dirty white socks?”

While many of the responses suggested Leanne use store-bought stain removers, such as Vanish and Napisan, some suggested soda crystals.

Claire Lowe said: “Soak overnight with soda crystals, then wash as normal. I do all my whites like this and everyone always comments how white they are.”

Lucy Harris commented: “Wash them out with soda crystals in the sink before washing. It gets them much cleaner than just washing as it lifts the dirt.”

Hazel Kirk replied: “Soaked them in a bowl of cold water to loosen the dirt and then washed with soda crystals.”

Donna Thornley recommended: “Pink stuff Oxi in the wash or soak them in soda crystals and then wash.”

Heidi Smith claimed: “Soda crystals. I’ve tried everything and soda crystals are the only thing that gets my whites pure white again.”

Debbie Simmonds wrote: “Soda crystals and on a temperature. I do mine on a 90 and they come up a treat.”

For those who have socks that look tired and dull, then soda crystals are perfect.

While they’re not a bleaching agent, they’re great for shifting stains from laundry.

Soda crystals act as a powerful in-wash stain remover and water softener with a gentle whitening action.

Households can either add it to their normal detergent or use it as a pre-wash.

Using soda crystals in the wash not only cleans and whitens laundry but also cleans the washing machine.

Soda crystals eliminate gunk and clean out any bacteria from the appliances so clothes don’t come out smelling nasty.
