Mystery grows as human remains were found stuffed in luggage in Florida and Texas as police race to identify victims

Human remains were found stuffed inside luggage in two separate incidents last week, spanning from southern Texas to south Florida.

On Thursday, officials with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in Texas reported finding human remains inside a duffel bag that was left on a resident’s property.

The next day, Delray Beach police found a suitcase floating in a Florida waterway containing dismembered human remains.

They later found two other suitcases nearby, which contained other body parts believed to have belonged to the same victim.

Now, authorities in both states are working to identify the victims and their killers.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office stated they received a call about a suspicious package shortly before 11am Thursday, when people who were feeding animals on a property while their owners were out of town noticed luggage on the lawn.

When deputies arrived, they discovered human remains inside the duffel bag, Sheriff Javier Salazar said at a news conference.

‘There wasn’t really a whole lot of effort to hide the body, other than it was inside a suitcase,’ he said.

An investigation into the discovery is ongoing, with Salazar saying it is unclear how long the duffel was on the property before it was found.

The gender and identity of the victim also remain unclear.

‘The first inclination, of course, is to assume that it’s a homicide scene,’ Salazar said. ‘At this point, all we really know is that we’ve got partial human remains out there.’

He noted investigators also observed what appeared to be attempts to burn something near the property, but Salazar cautioned that neighbors may have just been burning trash.

‘It’s just too early to tell if the person was killer here, or if they were brought here in that piece of luggage and then dumped here,’ he said.Β

Salazar added the owners of the property are cooperating with the investigation.Β

Just a few hours after that gruesome discovery, police in Delray Beach, Florida, reported they found dismembered human remains in a suitcase that was floating in the intracoastal waterway.

Investigators would then discover two other suitcases along the waterway, which also contained body parts.

‘At this early stage of the investigation, the remains appear to belong to one unidentified adult female,’ officers wrote in their incident report.

Police have officially ruled the death a homicide, and announced Sunday the remains are those of an unidentified adult female, who is either white or Hispanic, middle-aged with brown hair and approximately 5-foot 4-inches tall.

She may have had tattooed eyebrows, and was wearing a floral tank top with a black undershirt and black mid-thigh shorts.Β

The Delray Police Department is asking anyone with information about the crime to call Det. Mike Liberta at (561) 243-7874.Β
