The Great’s Gwilym Lee has teased what’s coming next for Georgina after her latest stunt in her quest for power.
Lee’s character Grigor has had his fair share to deal with thanks to wife Georgina (Charity Wakefield), who was a mistress to Peter III (Nicholas Hoult) and an ardent social climber.
But with Peter’s shocking and sudden death, Georgina stooped to new lows by the end of season three with a new plan.
In the final episode, we see her attempt to secretly marry baby Paul, Peter’s son with Catherine (Elle Fanning).

Speaking about the shocking moment, Lee thinks even Georgina didn’t fully think through the plan, or what it could mean for her going forward.
“She’s slightly nihilistic. She’s just got nothing to lose, and I don’t necessarily know that she knows exactly what she’s trying to achieve at any one moment,” Lee said exclusively to Daily Express.
“I just think that she is so kind of invested in this kind of character that she’s trying to create for herself, as being this newly kind of awoken woman of the Enlightenment, that I don’t even think she knows where reality and fiction starts and finishes.
“I think she’s just kind of going with it. I don’t think she knows where it’s going to end either.”
Questions over the success of the marriage remains to be seen. With the ceremony interrupted by Hugo and Agnes, it’s unclear if the ceremony was completed.
Some believe that the quickie vow exchange did happen, with Archie (Adam Godley) finishing the prayer with ‘Amen’, signifying the essential part of the ceremony that would bind Georgina and Paul together.
If it counts, then Georgina now has a direct line to the throne, with Paul in line to take over the crown after the death of his mother.
So if Catherine was to meet her maker and die, Georgina would become the new Empress of Russia – especially if Paul isn’t of age yet.
But as for what’s being planned, Lee is as in the dark as the rest of us, with season 4 not yet confirmed to happen.
“She’s kind of having an inkling of her influence and power over things and she’s always had that side to her character,” he said. “She’s always been kind of positioning herself in court.
“It’ll be interesting to see where it goes. We never know where it goes. It’s just we go wherever Tony’s imagination takes us.
“So it’s kind of exciting to think where the whole thing could go.”
