F1 LIVE: Mercedes in talks with 'Red Bull spy' as Daniel Ricciardo plan ruined

According to ESPN, Red Bull had not intended to announce Daniel Ricciardo’s return as quickly as they did.

News of the Australian’s F1 comeback came just hours after he stepped out of the car at Silverstone for a tyre test.

However, it is now claimed that Red Bull were blindsided after De Vries’ manager tipped off Dutch media.

F1 commentator Alard Kalff was one of the first to report De Vries’ sacking on Twitter ahead of an official statement.

It is believed Red Bull would have published information about their driver change later in the week.
