Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has had his plans to sign Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana fall by the wayside after being set a £120million summer budget in order to comply with financial fair play rules. The Red Devils are set to spend half of that on Mason Mount and so wouldn’t have enough left to spend another £60m on Onana and still be able to secure their other targets.
Although United will sell several players to raise funds they are reportedly looking for cheaper options between the sticks with Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp at the top of their shortlist. There are no such issues for Liverpool, however, as they look to put down a big bid on Nice’s Khephren Thuram.
The Reds are hoping to steal a march on Newcastle in the race for the player’s signature and are progressing talks quickly for a deal that is expected to cost them around £60m. Man City are also looking to spend big and are mulling over a £90m bid for Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong.
Pep Guardiola tried to sign the Dutchman in 2019 but he instead chose to sign for Barca. The Catalonians are keen to keep hold of him but are willing to let him go if the price is right.
