Max Verstappen leaves F1 icon 'bored to death' even more than Michael Schumacher did

Eddie Jordan has revealed that he is ‘bored to death’ of Max Verstappen’s dominance in Formula One, which he believes is even worse than Michael Schumacher’s run of five straight Drivers’ Championship triumphs between 2000 and 2004. Verstappen has been operating in a league of his own since wrapping up his maiden title in 2021 and cruised to last year’s honours with several races to spare, while he already looks set to make it a hat-trick by winning again in 2023.

The Dutchman is currently 69 points ahead of his nearest challenger in the standings and will be looking to record his fifth straight Grand Prix victory at next weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, which has been a Red Bull stronghold over the last few years. Jordan, however, is not impressed with how predictable F1 is becoming in the Verstappen era despite believing the 25-year-old will eventually finish his career as an all-time great.

“Max Verstappen will emerge over time to be the greatest driver of all time,” Jordan told the Formula For Success podcast. “He’s that good. I don’t like the last couple of races, I have to tell you. I’m bored to death with him. He’s just that good. He’s making it boring, more so than the Schumacher era.”

Red Bull’s incredible pace over the course of this season has led to suggestions that they could end up winning every single race, a feat which has never been achieved in the entire history of F1, although it remains to be seen if they will be caught by the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston Martin before the campaign draws to a close.

Christian Horner recently insisted that Red Bull are indeed quick enough to win every Grand Prix this year, but added that it will be extremely difficult as a result of the variables that could dash their hopes of doing so over the coming months. Things can change incredibly quickly in F1, with a single power unit failure for Verstappen able to wreck Red Bull’s chances of making the dream a reality.

“That’s 27 per cent of all the races that we have entered, we have won, [it] is an incredible statistic,” Horner told Sky Sports F1 after Red Bull’s latest victory in Canada, which marked a century of wins for the team since entering the sport in 2005.

“We just take things one race at a time and I don’t think you let your mind drift too far into the future, so many things can go wrong. Can we [win every race this year]? Yes. Will we? Who knows, because there’s so many variables in this game and we’re just taking things one race at a time.

“The team is doing an incredible job. Max is driving out of his skin as well at the moment, so just collectively the group are doing a tremendous job.”
