New York Mets relief pitcher Drew Smith was ejected at the top of the seventh inning for too much stickiness on his hands.
Smith was coming in for Jeff Brigham – who has also failed the inspection – but he did not pass the umpires check.

Smith is the fourth pitcher to be ejected this season for failing to pass the hands check.
‘A player who possesses or applies foreign substances in violation of the playing rules is subject to immediate ejection from the game and will be suspended automatically,’ Michael Hill, Senior Vice-President of On-Field Operations wrote in a memo to teams earlier this year.
At the time of writing, the Yankees lead the Mets 7-6 at the top of the eighth inning.
