James Craven made his Coronation Street debut last year as rapist Aaron Sandford.
Earlier this year, soap viewers were horrified when Aaron raped Amy Barlow (played by Elle Mulvaney) after she fell asleep following an evening of alcohol.
Amy ended up exposing Aaron by writing about what he had done to her on social media after the police failed to act.
Aaron and his father then launched a costly legal fight against Amy and the Barlows to force her to take down the post so his name could be cleared.
Amy felt forced to remove the post as her family was facing financial ruin at the hands of Aaron’s father.

However, taking down the post was not enough for Aaron and his father, and they called for a full retraction.
Aaron has covered things up and refused to believe he could have been responsible for something so awful.
It is understood the star who plays Aaron has already filmed his final scenes on Coronation Street.
Express.co.uk has contacted ITV for comment on the exit.
The scenes are expected to unfold on screens in the coming weeks.

“James has loved his time on the cobbles, who wouldn’t want to play a villain on Corrie?” A source told The Sun.
“But when you play someone like Aaron there is always going to be a shelf-life and it’s time for him to go.”
The actor has reportedly “made great friends” on the soap and is “focused on the future”.
He opened up earlier this year about struggling with the hard-hitting Amy plot.
“It was always clear to me that what he’s done is wrong,” James shared.
“But I had to try and think about everything from his point of view, and he just doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong.
“The reason that he reacts and defends himself in the way that he does is because he truly believes he’s innocent.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
