Royal Mail shares latest postal delays including full list of impacted areas

Royal Mail aims to deliver to all addresses it has mail for, six days a week, however this is not always possible.

Delays are often due to high levels of sickness absence, poor weather conditions, resourcing issues and local factors.

The postal service updated customers on the status of deliveries today, Monday June 5, 2023.

Royal Mail stated: “Royal Mail operates an air, rail and road network to move letters and parcels between our distribution hubs, mail processing centres and delivery offices around the UK.”

Over the weekend, Royal Mail’s air and rail networks both “operated to schedule”, however its road network was disrupted.

Royal Mail said: “On Friday night, heavy traffic on the M6 resulted in the late arrival of some vehicles into the Scottish Distribution Centre.

“As a result, some mail posted in other parts of the UK for delivery in parts of Scotland on Saturday may arrive later than expected.”

The postal service also shared that not all mail was processed and despatched to schedule over the weekend at Bristol Mail Centre.
“Some mail posted on Friday in the BA, BS, GL and TA postcode areas, due for delivery on Saturday in other parts of the UK.”

Today, Monday June 5, some Royal Mail customers are likely to be impacted by postal delays.

For affected local offices, Royal Mail pledged to “rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers”.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

Royal Mail apologised to any customers adversely affected by postal delays today.
