Emmerdale legend announces return to screens after dramatic exit from ITV soap

Paige Sandhu portrayed serial killer Meena Jutla on Emmerdale until the character was sentenced to life behind bars last year on the ITV serial drama.

Meena’s reign of terror lasted for more than a year, with the evil nurse killing Leanna Cavanagh (played by Mimi Slinger), Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) and Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon) before she was finally caught out.

The character may be locked up, but Emmerdale fans are hopeful the murderer might return to the Yorkshire Dales one day.

Paige has now revealed she is taking on a new role in an upcoming film called Lioness.

The 26-year-old actress shared the exciting update with her social media followers on Tuesday.

Taking to Instagram, Paige said she was “humbled and honoured” to be joining the cast.

The star said: “I am so incredibly humbled and honoured to be announcing #Lioness.

“To say this part, this story, this cast and crew is a dream come true would be doing it a disservice – I am so blown away by this incredible story and cannot wait for the world to learn about Princess Sophia Duleep Singh.

“Granddaughter of the Lion of Punjab, youngest daughter of the deposed Maharajah Duleep Singh and goddaughter to Queen Victoria.”

“Her life, the people she helped and her work as a suffragette is truly amazing,” Paige added. “And I am so delighted to be working with the amazing @aditiraohydari and @kajribabbar.”

The actress described the role in the movie as a “dream come true”.

She also shared a quote from political activist Emmeline Pankhurst who organised the Suffragette movement.

Paige’s Emmerdale co-stars and fans congratulated the actress on her latest role as did many of her fans.

Rebecca Sarker, who plays Meena’s sister Manpreet Sharma in Emmerdale, said: “Yes, sis!”

Pete Leo shared: “A world away from Meena on #emmerdale, she will be fabulous in this role.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
