Disney's Little Mermaid remake gives a subtle dig at Kate Middleton

The Little Mermaid is one of Meghan Markle’s favourite Disney films, and now it’s been suggested that the live action remake contains a dig at her estranged sister-in-law.

A critic who saw an early screening of the film has suggested there is a subtle dig at Kate, the Princess of Wales, in the script.

Speaking to Page Six the reviewer pointed to the scene where Ariel and Prince Eric meet, after she’s given up her voice to get to the surface and he has to try to guess her name because she can’t speak.

‘His first guess is Diana. His second guess is Catherine, but after [Ariel gives a disgusted] reaction, he [concludes] ”OK, definitely not Catherine.”

They continued: ‘Disney would be disingenuous to imply those name choices were coincidental.’

While Catherine is the full name of his sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales who is more commonly known as Kate.

Meghan previously admitted she drew a comparison between the Little Mermaid and her own relationship with Prince Harry.

She even admitted to identifying with the mermaid in her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
