Speaking to Mailonline in a new interview, he said: “I was just spiralling out of control.

“I just felt like everything was closing in on me, my whole life and with the trolling and the backlash I received from my split with Vanessa.

“I understand that people are just saying stuff and voicing their opinion, but I kind of understand now how people feel that there’s no way out and they just want to end it all.”

He credits his new job with saving his life by giving him something to focus on: “I would say that it literally saved my life. I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have that show.”

Vanessa also struggled following the breakdown of their engagement.

Speaking to Express.co.uk in March she detailed the lifeline that had got her through.

“You know, I’ve just been through this horrible romantic implosion which has been absolutely horrific,” the TalkTV presenter said.

“Other women have been so amazing to me; both the ones I don’t know who have reached out to me on Instagram – literally hundreds of thousands of them – and the ones I do know, my actual friends, my family, my daughters and also lots of showbiz women that I have worked with over the years.

“They have taken the time to send messages and actually be there for me.

“It is a real example of, you know, when you are going through a difficult time in life, how support from other women can be the lifeline that really keeps you afloat when you think you might be going under.”
