I'm A Celeb's Paul Burrell 'playing up to camera' slams former campmate

I’m A Celebrity… South Africa saw former royal butler Paul Burrell once again take on the terrors of the jungle and spill his secrets about his time working for the Royal Family.

However, Paul has been slammed for “playing up to the camera” and creating “fake” drama, claims former campmate Nicola McLean.

Nicola shared her opinions of the new show during an Instagram Live chat and claimed: “I am obviously here for him [Paul] being back and living his best life I’m all for it, fly that flag.

“And I would be screaming if a snake was biting me but you can deffo see he was reenacting the first time round.

“Even though I’m not a royalist, I don’t like the fact he talks so much about Diana and he will definitely be in there talking about Harry and Meghan.” (sic)

“And I don’t know how true the stories are, I don’t know if he was ‘really’ that close to Diana. No, he has definitely spilt everything and then made up more 100 percent.”

Nicola starred in the 2008 series and admitted that she was “fuming” when she wasn’t invited back to the all-stars show.

The model argued that the current lineup isn’t very “memorable” and only had “one moment” each they were known for, rather than being “all-around legends”.

Nicola isn’t the only former celebrity to take aim at Paul, as recently booted campmate Shaun Ryder also had thoughts on Paul’s stories.

He touched on his over-the-top reactions during trials, hinting they are not genuine, expressing: “I love Paul Burrell, but at the end of the day Paul comes from a pit village. Paul’s dad was a miner, Paul is hard as f***.”

Paul hasn’t been a fan favourite either after he was slammed for having a tantrum when it was found out the camp had smuggled in contraband.

He infuriated campmate Fatima Whitbread when it was revealed he’d smuggled coffee into the jungle, along with Gillian McKeith’s items.

When it was revealed who had smuggled items in, Fatima fumed: “The rules are the rules, they’ve been broken and it shouldn’t go unpunished whether we like it or not! We’re all in it together. It shouldn’t go unpunished!”

Paul told the camp: “What I don’t like is people being shamed!” but Fatima was having none of it and replied: “But you brought shame to you…”

He later told Phil Tufnell: “We had the worst night ever when they discovered there was contraband in the camp.

“The first wave in the camp was Gillian McKeith, but there’s more as Myleene Klass had spices.”

Twitter user Chloe fumed: “Well if you behaved and obeyed the rules, Paul, no one would be wagging their finger at you going ‘grrr’ #ImACeleb.(sic)

@DiamondGirl added: “Oh bugger off Paul. You were in the wrong. You broke the rules so you are to blame. Case closed.”

Louis penned: “‘I don’t like blame being apportioned to people, says Paul Burrell. That’ll be news to Harry and Meghan #ImACeleb.” (sic)

I’m A Celebrity… South Africa airs weeknights from 9pm on ITV.
