Zara Tindall made 'bold choice' at Kate and William's wedding with 'futuristic' dress

Zara turned heads at the Prince and Princess of Wales’s nuptials wearing a grey metallic high-collared dress which looked almost futuristic in style.

The daughter of Princess Anne accessorised with a massive hat in a darker grey colour.

Molly Elizabeth, the founder of Eternal Goddess, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk to disclose the designer behind the metallic dress.

She said: “The grey coat dress seems to be a Paul Costelloe design with the Irish designer stating in April 2011 that he was dressing someone for the wedding event: ‘It’s a coat and dress…and then I did her a lovely dark navy ballgown for the evening ball’.”

Zara also chose to accessorise with an equally stunning headpiece, according to the expert.

Molly explained: “As with many royal events, Zara chose a large yet still elegant Phillip Treacy creation.”

The year 2011 featured two high-profile royal weddings – that of the Waleses’ in April and Zara and Mike Tindall’s in July.

According to Molly, this could have impacted the decision behind Zara’s metallic grey dress at Kate’s nuptials.

She opined: “While quite an understated overall appearance, Zara sought to have fun accessorising with a pair of Mary Jane-esque heels and a leopard print clutch handbag.”

Nikita Dixon, a jewellery and trends expert at Diamond’s Factory, exclusively spoke to Express.co.uk to provide an estimated value of Zara’s grey dress.

She said: “Although the exact price of the outfit has not been disclosed, it is estimated to have cost several thousand pounds at the time.”

According to the expert, this “futuristic” style was very on-trend in the year 2011.

Nikita explained: “Zara’s outfit for the royal wedding was modern and sleek with a futuristic approach. The outfit’s minimalist, sharp lines and metallic accents combined with the large asymmetrical hat, created a dramatic and eye-catching look.

“Futuristic style is experimental with unconventional designs, unusual shapes, materials, and colours. Such bold choices can be considered daring at formal events like a royal wedding but Zara certainly pulled off the futuristic aesthetic with confidence and style.

“In terms of fashion trends in 2011, there was a focus on minimalist and clean lines, with a mix of classic and contemporary styles.

“The use of neutral and muted colours was also popular at the time therefore Zara’s outfit was in line with the fashion trends at the time.”
