Outlander fans baffled as they spot odd flaw in Claire and Brianna relationship

Outlander fans were left confused when they realised Brianna Fraser (played by Sophie Skelton) missed a key detail about her mother Claire (Caitriona Balfe).

Millions of viewers worldwide are preparing for the highly anticipated return of Outlander in just a couple of months’ time.

During the wait, they have been returning to some favourite episodes as well as checking out the original novels by author Diana Gabaldon.

However, Outlander fans have been scratching their heads when they realised Claire has been wearing wedding rings for both Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies).

“Did Brianna ask about Claire’s ring?” Redditor u/wheelperson asked recently.

“It never addresses Briannas’ view on both rings, so I’m wondering if it was ever mentioned in the books?

“Did she ever ask about who gave her the other ring or where she got it as she was growing up?”

Eagle-eyed viewers can spot Claire wearing rings for both of her husbands, one on each hand, in key scenes throughout the series.

However, this fan admitted it was strange that Claire’s own daughter never questioned the origins of her second ring during her upbringing.

“The only thing that’s noted [in the books] is that her mother always wore it,” Outlander fan u/Icy_Outside5079 replied.

“So the rings are just a big deal in the show?” the original poster asked.

“I thought it was weird that everyone from the ‘past’ questioned them, but no word from Brianna.”

To which u/Nanchika responded: “They were a big deal in the books, too. But Bree never questioned it.

“I think it was uncommon that women wore two rings in the 18th century.

“But in the 20th century, women wore more rings so I guess Bree didn’t care about the origin of it.”

And u/2003CDiana reasoned: “Yes I think the reason we have a lot of questions is because WE know the origin of the rings, Bree doesn’t so it might not occur to her to ask.”

Even so, Brianna never thinking to ask about the origins of a piece of jewellery her mother is rarely seen without is still a major oversight for the series.

On the other hand, fans might assume this conversation simply happened off-screen, as Brianna is now well aware of Claire’s previous marriage to Frank in the 20th Century.

Thankfully, minor plot holes like this still haven’t put off Outlander’s dedicated followers who are expected to turn up in droves when the series returns this summer.

Outlander season 7 will premiere Friday, June 16 on Starz in the USA and Lionsgate+ via Prime Video in the UK.
