Man Utd cult hero Wes Brown declared bankrupt despite earning £50,000-a-week wages

“I didn’t play in the latter stages of Europe, from the quarter-finals onwards, but I was involved in the group stages and it’s an experience that, believe me, if it’s your first one, it’s going to be difficult to beat. Probably my best footballing season was 2007/08 when we won the Champions League again, but nothing quite tops the Treble season.”

Brown, who was born in Longsight, Manchester, reportedly split from wife Leanne last year. The report adds that in 2016, they had apparently slashed the price of their house from £4.5million to £2.4m.

The 43-year-old, who retired in 2018, made 23 appearances for England and scored one goal, against Czech Republic in 2008. After leaving United in 2011, Brown joined Sunderland and went on to play for Blackburn Rovers and Indian outfit Kerala Blasters. He had been the only member of the Treble-winning United team of 1998-99 who was still actively playing professional football.
