Coffee grounds in soil can boost your tomato plants and ‘help aid growth’

Grow them indoors

Tomatoes are the perfect crops to grow indoors as they need lots of warmth and can be grown from seed or from a young plant.

If you are growing tomatoes from seeds, put them in a 7.5cm pot with moist peat-free compost with a thin layer of vermiculite on top.

Then, water and cover the seeds with cling film and put the pot on a warm, bright windowsill or in a propagator.

Once germinated, and when they have their second set of leaves, they can be moved to a kitchen windowsill, conservatory or greenhouse.

Timing

The “best time” to sow tomato seeds is from February to April, however, tomato plants can be planted later on in May or June.
