‘We’re not trading those two players’: Broncos’ new head coach Sean Payton squashes trade speculation surrounding star wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and Cortland Sutton

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has tried to end the trade speculation surrounding star wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and Cortland Sutton, while speaking to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.

One of the recurring topics of conversations this offseason has been whether or not the Broncos would trade Jeudy or Sutton, as multiple teams have called about the two promising wide outs.

Despite the calls, countless reports have stated that teams around the NFL feel that the Broncos’ asking price for either receiver is far too high.

‘I see and read just like everyone else does,’ Payton said. ‘Then occasionally, when someone really crowds the plate, I throw a fastball right at their chin, and they back up, and they’re like, “Alright.”

‘And so I haven’t thrown any fastballs lately, but we’re not trading those two players.

‘When people call and the phone rings like it does this time of year, (general manager) George Paton’s job is to pick it up and say, “Hey. Tell you what, we’re not.”

‘And so, we’ve received calls, you bet. Those are two good football players. But we’re in the business of gathering talent right now.

‘Why do people call? Because they know we’re void of draft picks and that we might, because there was some discussions a year ago, I think, regarding Courtland. But we like the current group that we’re working with.’

A recent report from ESPN’s Jeff Legwold stated that the Broncos were ‘resolute’ in wanting a first- or second-round draft pick in return for Jeudy.

The 2020 first-round pick finished last season as Denver’s leading receiver with 67 catches for 972 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games.

Sutton was not far behind him in most categories after recording 64 catches for 829 yards and two touchdowns through 15 games.

Jeudy has not lived up to the hype that surrounded him when he was taken 15th overall in 2020.

While 2022 marked career-highs for the 23-year-old that is set to enter his fourth season in the league, he has been inconsistent when not dealing with injury issues, although part of that could be blamed on the Broncos issues at quarterback.

Sutton is also said to not be seen by other teams as a No.1 and not worth the high asking price as well.
