A six-year-old Maine girl will never be able to smile again after being mauled in a savage pit bull attack that left her with more than 1,000 stitches in her face and neck.
Little Lily Norton was on a playdate at a friend’s house when the horrifying attack occurred. The pit bull, who was being watched by her friend’s mother- leapt at the youngster and mauled her little face- when her friend walked away from the table to get a deck of cards for them to play with.
A relative in a GoFundMe wrote that ‘the dog had Lily in her mouth.’
Lily was rushed to a local hospital and than flown to Boston Children’s Hospital on Saturday for emergency surgery that took 11 hours and a massive amount of stitches from below her eyes to under her chin.
CJ Pitcher, a family friend who created the fundraiser for Lily told the Sun Journal that ‘her salivary glands aren’t working … and doctors said she won’t be able to smile again … muscles are too damaged.’

It is unclear where the dog was taken after the attack.
Doctors have put Lily on a breathing tube for the next week to keep her sedated and help her to heal and prevent her from scratching at her face.
Dorothy Norton has been at her daughter’s bedside since the attack, as Lily’s father, Leo, is back in Chesterfield, a small town in Maine that has a population of less than 1,500, to care for their other children.
The attack was being investigated by Animal Control Officers.
Lily’s mother was grateful for the outpouring of support since the attack and gave an update on her daughter’s health.
‘She’s still sedated because she has a breathing tube in. But other than that, she’s really good. She looks really good,’ Dorothy said, News Center Maine reported.
