Dame Judi Dench sat down with Louis Theroux and spoke candidly about her career and personal life in the latter’s BBC interview. The actress and her late husband, Michael Williams, purchased their Surrey farmhouse almost four decades ago, with a much smaller price tag, but admittedly didn’t remember the work she undertook to pay it off.
The 88-year-old’s home in Surrey is reportedly worth an estimated £8m but she recently shared it had been overrun with a mice infestation and was collapsing.
In Louis Theroux’s interview that aired last month, Judi revealed that it was an advertisement for Clover soft spread that helped them take the property off the market.
She said: “Suddenly, Michael and I got a Clover butter advertisement that bought this house. It was something like 38 years ago.”
The James Bond star confirmed the advertisement was a one-off and not part of a running brand agreement.

After a producer steps in to show her the ad, she admits she has no recollection of ever filming it.
The Oscar winner has enjoyed the comforts of a picturesque farmhouse in Surrey but is admittedly sharing the property with rodents.
The actress said: “The mice have moved in since lockdown and I’m battling the mice. They have moved in and taken over a bit.”
The on-screen star revealed this is not her only concern with the historic property, built in 1497, also on the verge of collapse, according to The Mirror.
Dame Judi added: “My house is falling down a bit here and there.”
The property is said to boast “wonderful gardens” and also has a separate cottage, a swimming pool, workshops, barns and a pond.
The film star has enjoyed an illustrious career having won an Oscar, a Tony, two Golden Globes, six BAFTAs, and seven Olivier Awards.
Elsewhere, Judi recently joined members of the Roal Family in time for Christmas to deliver a special poem.

King Charles III recruited some of his famous celebrity pals to assist him along the way.
The Royal Family’s verified Instagram account on Saturday morning posted a sweet video in which the monarch stands in front of a lit Christmas tree and prepares to read “‘Twas The Night Before Christmas.”
Camilla, Queen Consort joined some other very familiar faces, including Daniel Craig, Tom Hardy, Judi Dench and Maggie Smith.
The effort’s to raise awareness for the Actor’s Benevolent Fund, a UK-based charity founded in 1882 that supports actors and stage managers who are unable to work due to illness, injury or old age and those experiencing financial hardship.

“In December 2020, The King and The Queen Consort were joined by some familiar faces to read the popular Christmas poem in support of the Actors’ Benevolent Fund.
“The charity supports actors and stage managers who are unable to work due to illness, injury or old age and those experiencing financial hardship.”
The poem comes just days after Buckingham Palace announced that the monarch’s first Trooping of the Colour will take place June 17, 2023.
