Coronation Street's Tyrone and Fiz stars speak out on 'third time lucky' proposal

Over the years, Coronation Street couple Fiz Stape (played by Jennie McAlpine) and Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) have had their fair share of ups and downs. The pair have seen multiple relationships but ultimately come back to each other. Jennie and Alan recently opened up about the pair’s love for one another and touched on their upcoming marriage.

In recent scenes, Tyrone managed to pluck up the courage to ask Fiz to marry him after the pair got back together a few months ago.

Fiz married her boyfriend Phil Whittaker (Jamie Kenna) but realised during the party reception she had married the wrong man.

Reuniting with Tyrone, the couple faced their first challenge back together which came in the form of a book about Fiz’s ex-husband John Stape (Graeme Hawley).

Their daughter Hope Stape (Isabelle Flanagan) got hold of the books and started selling them to her school friends, before being found out.

The school decided to keep an eye on her, inviting Fiz and Tyrone in to speak to them about how she was doing.

During the altercation, the teacher made a blunder and assumed they were married leaving them to feel awkward about their recent situation.

Fiz felt embarrassed by the altercation, however, this encouraged Tyrone to pop the question in Roy’s Rolls.

Opening up about the pair finally getting engaged for good, Jennie told Express.co.uk and other press: “I think the fresh start is hopeful.

“Of course, in his mind, nothing can go wrong, so therefore he just plans it all, off the cuff, not telling Fiz, of course, he doesn’t think of any eventualities that it won’t go perfectly to his plan.

“It’s all in good spirit that he just wants the best and he wants Fiz to have that great day that he thinks she deserves, but of course, you know, he hasn’t thought it through very well.”

Like Fiz, Tyrone has also walked down the aisle twice with Molly Compton (Vicky Binns) and Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede).

When asked if it was third time lucky for the couple, Alan admitted: “I think those other two was just practising.

“Throughout his life unbeknownst to him, this is where he’s wanted to be. He has come a long way and those walking down the aisles were the mistakes that he needed to make to find himself in this place.”

In upcoming scenes set to air on Christmas Day, Fiz is excited about spending the day together as a family again, but Tyrone has other ideas.

Tyrone acts as if he doesn’t care about Christmas and suggests that they get a takeaway, but Fiz is determined to have a traditional dinner and sets out to find a turkey.

However, she becomes stranded with no phone in the middle of nowhere, with Tyrone not knowing where she has got to either.

Will she make her own wedding day? Or will Tyrone be left standing at the altar?

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
