Adele 'refuses’ to cheer for England in the World Cup despite being avid footie fan

Adele Adkins, 34, started her long-awaited Las Vegas residency last month after postponing it from earlier this year. Having already suffered some vocal injuries throughout her career, the football fan has reportedly held back on cheering during the World Cup to protect her voice.

The sensational singer is now heading into the fourth week of her five-month Las Vegas residency, but that hasn’t taken too much of her attention.

Adele is reportedly football-crazed and when not performing has been glued to the World Cup action, supporting her native England.

However, after having to postpone her residency once already, the star is allegedly not willing to sacrifice her voice for a few goals in Qatar.

An insider reportedly told The Sun that she has been “going to extreme lengths” to protect and avoid “excessive stress” on her voice.

They claimed the singer hardly speaks before shows and if she absolutely has to talk will only whisper.

She has especially restrained herself when in front of the telly, with the insider noting not cheering on England has been “quite a sacrifice” for the singer.

Adele’s concerns are not without cause, in 2017 she had to cancel shows at Wembley due to damage to her vocal cords.

In 2011, she also suffered a haemorrhage to her vocal cords after a performance and needed microsurgery to fix it.

Understandably, the star isn’t willing to risk more damage to her career-defining tool and holds the residency too close to her heart to postpone it again.

In November, Adele penned an emotional Instagram post before her opening night at the infamous Caesars Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas.

She wrote: “I’m feeling all sorts as I write this. I’m highly emotional, incredibly nervous but can’t sit still because I’m so excited.

“I feel a million miles away from home, I can’t stop thinking about when I was little and saw Tom Jones in Mars Attacks and thought blimey how did he get from Wales to Las Vegas!?

“I always get scared before shows, and I take it as a good sign because it means I care and means I just want to do a good job.

“Maybe it’s because I didn’t start when I was supposed to. Maybe it’s because it’s opening night, maybe it’s because Hyde Park went so great, maybe it’s because I love the show I don’t know.

“But it’s safe to say I’ve never been more nervous before a show in my career, but at the same time, I wish today was tomorrow! I can’t wait to see you out there x”

She paired the heartfelt words with an adorable photo of her singing and dancing barefoot in the stands, where her audience would soon sit.

Her five-month residency was supposed to start in January but was cancelled with only one day’s notice.

Adele has also recently released dates that will see the star singing in the New Year and encouraged those attending this special performance to dress to the nines.

She wrote on Instagram: “New Year’s Eve has always been a letdown for me, I seem to always end up spending it in a car on my way to or from somewhere! But not this year!!

“I’ll be ringing 2023 in on stage!! I dress up to the nines on NYE and I would love it if those of you that come would too! Let’s go all out black tie vibes.”
