  • Thomas Frank and Graham Potter interviewed each other before the game
  • In the unusual encounter, Frank asked Potter why he changes formation so often

Chelsea boss Graham Potter and Brentford manager Thomas Frank took the unusual step of interviewing each other before their teams drew 0-0 on Wednesday night.

The Blues continued their unbeaten run since new boss Potter took over from Thomas Tuchel, even though they dropped two points at the Gtech Community Stadium – and arguably the most entertaining moment game before kick off.

Appearing on Amazon Prime Sport’s pre-match show, Potter and Frank joined host Simon Thomas and pundit Gianfranco Zola to preview their game.

Thomas began by saying: ‘It’s not too often we have both managers joining us before a big game ahead of kick off. But while we’ve got you – Thomas, I don’t know if this is fair or not but if you could ask this man [Potter] one question, what would it be?’

Frank laughed as he admitted he had been put on the spot, before praising his counterpart – and then cheekily asking why he always changes formation.

‘First I would praise Graham a lot. It’s a fantastic journey he’s been on and I’m so happy a coach who has been walking the long way gets a chance at a top six club and I think Graham has showed his qualities hugely and I’m sure he’ll do a great job at Chelsea.

If I could ask him one question – why are you changing the formation so many times?’

The group all began laughing before Potter responded: ‘Good question!’

He then explained: ‘Well changing the formation – we don’t see it as the end goal, it’s about how the team is playing. The team needs to look consistent no matter what the formation is.

‘Then it’s about the personnel, how you want to attack, defend – these are the things we consider. Hopefully there’s things that look the same even though the shape changes.

Potter was then asked if he wanted to pose his own question – with the ex-Brighton boss asking Frank the biggest difference between the Championship and the Premier League.

The Bees boss answered that the main thing he noticed was the pace of the game and that teams are much more clinical in the top flight.

The draw at Brentford ended Potter’s winning run since taking charge but kept his side unbeaten under his management as they stayed in fourth place.

It was actually the hosts who had the best chances to win – with Bryan Mbeumo guilty of missing a great chance with a point blank header, which was saved by Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
