Boxing fans SLAM Conor Benn after his failed drugs test

‘Ban him for life!’: Boxing fans SLAM ‘absolute melon’ Conor Benn after his failed drugs test plunged his huge fight with Chris Eubank Jr into doubt… as other social media users praise Eubank Jr for wanting to go ahead with the blockbuster bout

Boxing fans have slammed Conor Benn after his failed drugs test plunged his blockbuster fight with Chris Eubank Jr into doubt.

Sportsmail on Wednesday exclusively revealed that Benn had been notified he had returned an adverse finding for the banned substance clomifene.

And social media users were quick to hit out at Benn following the bombshell news, which comes just days before Saturday’s huge contest at the O2 Arena.

One called Benn an ‘absolute melon’, while another social media user said the 26-year-old Brit should be banned for life.

‘Maybe this was the reason Eubank Snr didn’t want the fight to happen but couldn’t say,’ another added. ‘If true then Benn is finished in boxing.’

One fan called the development ’embarrassing’ and others shared memes of promoter Eddie Hearn looking tearful.

Another Twitter user posted a picture of Cristiano Ronaldo slumped onto the turf after playing for Portugal with the caption: ‘Well that’s the weekend gone to absolute s***.’

Sources have told Sportsmail that Eubank Jr wants to carry on with the fight, a development which has sparked praise from fans on Twitter.

‘Honestly fair play if Eubank allows the fight to go ahead,’ said one. A second added: ‘Eubank is a beast man he don’t care.’

Hearn has insisted the bout is still going ahead as things stand.

In an official statement, co-promoters Wasserman and Matchroom said: ‘We have been made aware that a random anti-doping test for Conor Benn conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association returned an adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug.

‘The B sample has yet to be tested, meaning that no rule violation has been confirmed. Indeed, Mr Benn has not been charged with any rule violation, he is not suspended and he remains free to fight.

‘Mr Benn has since passed a doping control test conducted by the UK Anti-Doping Agency, the anti-doping authority to which the British Board of Boxing Control has delegated its doping control testing for the bout. Mr Benn has passed all doping control tests conducted by UKAD.

‘Both fighters have taken medical and legal advice, are aware of all relevant information, and wish to proceed with the bout this Saturday.’
