Carlos Santana, 74, collapses onstage during in Michigan: Organizers cancel concert and tell fans to pray for him

Carlos Santana collapsed onstage during a performance in Clarkston, Michigan at the Pine Knob Music Theatre due to heat exhaustion and dehydration, his manager Michael Vrionis said. 

The 74-year-old guitar player was taken to the emergency department at McLaren Clarkston for observation and ‘is doing well,’ Vrionis said.

According to Fox 2, Santana was about 40 minutes into his set playing his song Joy when he fell, and concert organizers  subsequently said the show was canceled amid the medical event, and requested fans to pray for him.

Fox2 Detroit anchor Roop Raj tweeted an image of the photo taken by meteorologist Lori Pinson, writing that ‘medical personnel [were] on stage’ and the ‘crowd [was] asked to pray for him because of a “serious medical” issue.’

Pinson, who was at the show, told the outlet of the sequence of events: ‘Suddenly the music just died down. I didn’t see him collapse on stage, but everyone had him off to the side … a chair appeared where there was not one before. The medics began to rush up on stage.’

She continued: ‘Right now he is still on stage. They have pulled a black curtain so you can’t see him on directly but he is still on stage.’

‘They just told us to leave the venue, but so many are still here, stunned, looking at a near empty stage at Pine Knob, Clarkston … Santana was about 1 minute into a song he had collaborated with Chris Stapleton,’ Barnas said in a tweet . ‘Carlos was calling for healing and joy.’

Pinson told Fox 2 that during the show, Santana ‘played all the originals everyone loves like Black Magic Woman’ and ‘was making several statements on the state of the world, all positive.’
