Actress Rachel Brosnahan has led the celebrity chorus of outrage at the Highland Park shooting, saying the July 4 parade massacre in her hometown left her ‘sick’, and insisting: ‘Enough is enough’.
Six people were killed on Monday when a gunman opened fire from a rooftop before fleeing. Police have detained local man Robert Crimo, 22, who they describe as a person of interest. He was arrested after a brief chase.
The affluent community, with a large Jewish population, was home to Michael Jordan while he played for the Chicago Bulls; actor Ken Olin; and musician Richard Marx.
It was also the location for scenes from Home Alone – the McCallister house is seven miles away from the shooting, in the neighboring town of Winnetka – and for scenes from Risky Business, the 1983 film that made Tom Cruise a household name.
Brosnahan, 31, star of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, lived in Highland Park from the age of four.

‘I grew up in Highland Park and this parade is a highlight of the year for so many families,’ she tweeted.
‘I’m sick to my stomach every time news like this comes out, but I don’t wish the pit in your stomach as you call your family and friends to make sure everyone is okay on anyone. No words.’
The suspect has been named as 22-year-old Robert ‘Bobby’ Crimo III. He is from of the Highland Park area and was arrested on Monday night
She tweeted a link to the gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety, and added: ‘Enough is enough is enough is enough is enough is enough is enough is enough is enough.’
Olin, 67, star of Thirtysomething and This Is Us, also called Highland Park home.
‘My hometown,’ he tweeted. ‘I went to this parade every year as a little boy.
‘My heart breaks for all the children in our country who will grow up afraid of celebrating with a mass of happy people.’
Marx, 58, who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, said he was still making sure his friends and relatives were unharmed.
‘I grew up in Highland Park. I’m actively reaching out to check on the welfare of people I still know there,’ he tweeted.
‘My heart is always broken by these constant mass shootings no matter where they occur but today I’m extra heartbroken. And extra angry at the senselessness.’

Highland Park, a heavily Jewish area home to 30,000 people living 30 miles north of downtown Chicago, is one of the more affluent communities in Illinois.
Some estimates put the area’s Jewish population at about a third of its total population, according to Haaretz.
The average per capita income is $90,000.
Basketball superstar Jordan, 59, bought a seven acre estate in Highland Park in 1991 for $2 million – the same year he won his first of six NBA championships playing for the Chicago Bulls.
He built the 56,000-square-foot home to his own specifications, including his jersey number 23 on the gates.
The house has nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a movie theater, cigar room, poker room, wine cellar, and an outdoor tennis court – plus a full-sized basketball court.
Jordan, who now lives in Jupiter, Florida, put the property on the market in March 2012 for $29 million. It has not sold, and remains for sale, now priced at $14.8 million.
The average home in the area is $535,000 – significantly above the Illinois average of $276,000, in May.
Highland Park is 90 percent white, and well educated – 75 percent of residents have a university degree.
